campaign coverage via text screenshots...we're into it
All you political news junkies are probably already following BuzzFeed Ben new newsletter, The Stakes 2020, but this recent excerpt is worth a spin mostly because a huge part of it is just...screenshots of texts between Ben Smith and some candidates? which is definitely new and very 2019 and potentially titillating (immediate question we have: is it weird that Tim Ryan used that particular thumbs up emoji?? Should someone tell him maybe stick to the default yellow option?? 👀).Â
At a time when all the candidates in the Democratic field are struggling to differentiate themselves + when every news outlet is trying to psychoanalyze their every move, it’s definitely a **unique** (and very BuzzFeedy) style of coverage...though what we’d be extremely interested in knowing is how the comms team on the other side of the phone figures into all of it (please tell us they’re not focus grouping which emojis to use, right? ugh where’s a Veep episode when you need one!).
Disclaimer: ya girl works for BuzzFeed, etc., but you knew this yes??
