R-I-fuckin-P

Ugh ugh ugh pour a big one out for The Awl, the internet’s most fascinating and homey corner of hipster curiosities. For a comprehensive (but tragically ironic — “We’ll be the cockroaches who don’t die but who are and will remain cockroaches“) overview of how a little blog cooked up by two former Gawker writers turned into the website read by “the most important people in media” (and incubated some of the internet’s coolest writers today), read this old profile by The Verge, but if you just want to revisit some of The Awl’s best hits, I recommend Seven Years as a Freelance Writer, or How to Make Vitamin Soup and Access Denied, both two crucially important meditations on the state of modern media that I hope get printed out and bound in a hip AF coffee table book to preserve for posterity, at the very least.
